Mocchi Mocchi in JINBO PEARLS — Otsu, Shiga

We are pleased to share that mocchi mocchi, one of the artists featured at ARTiATE, will hold an exhibition at Jinbo Pearl Shop in Otsu, Shiga.

mocchi mocchi is a sister artist duo creating hand-pulled silkscreen prints. By simplifying everyday motifs such as cats and vases into their essential forms and relationships, they seek to create works that resonate with each viewer's own memories and senses. The indirect process of screen printing gives rise to abstract lines and surfaces that could never come from a drawing hand — works that leave you with a feeling you can't quite grasp, in the best way.

The venue: Jinbo Pearl Shop, home of Lake Biwa pearls

The exhibition takes place at Jinbo Pearl Shop, a specialist in freshwater pearls from Lake Biwa, founded in 1966 and rooted in its home of Shiga. No two Biwa pearls are alike — each one differs in color, shape, and luster, shaped by the hands of local producers and the workings of nature.

There is a special connection here: mocchi mocchi designed the shop's logo, and it is this relationship that led to the exhibition — their first at Jinbo Pearl Shop in two years. Silkscreen prints and Biwa pearls: two kinds of one-of-a-kind, resonating in a single space.
